This involves drawing a quantity of oil through a 0.8µm membrane. This detects more contaminants than the ISO 4406 or NAS 1638 methods, including oil oxidation products which are responsible for varnish formation. This reference chart provides a simple comparison test for field checks of the condition of hydraulic fluids. ISO 4406, Hydraulic fluid power — Fluids — Method for coding the level of contamination by solid particles ISO 5598, Fluid power systems and components — Vocabulary ISO, Hydraulic fluid power — Calibration of automatic particle counters for liquids. Iso 4406 Pdf 10/4/2019 ISO 4406:2017(E) Foreword ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). Oil cleanliness is measured against ISO Cleanliness Code 4406. This code quantifies particulate contamination levels per milliliter of oil at 4, 6 and 14 µm. The first step in measuring oil cleanliness is counting the particulate matter using one of several particle counting methods. These include: ISO 4407: In this method, the oil sample is. Understanding the ISO 4406:1999 Cleanliness Guide. The current standard for measuring particulate in oils is ISO 4406:1999. A Simple Explanation. Essentially ISO 4406:1999 represents a standardised method of counting and reporting the number of particles of contamination found in an oil.

The international standard ISO 4406, “Hydraulic fluid power — Fluids — Method for coding the level of contamination by solid particles” provides a framework for reporting the concentration of contamination particles in hydraulic oil using an automatic particle counter (like the Hiac or Accusizer 780). The older standard published in 1987 required particle concentration be reported at two sizes: 5 & 15 µm. This has been replaced in the new standard published in 1999 with three sizes; 4, 6 & 14 µm.

Iso 4406 Pdf

A three number scale is used to report the particle count – the first number represents the particles/ mL > 4 µm, the second number represents the particles/ mL > 6 µm, and the third number represents the particles/ mL > 14 µm. A scale number is assigned to a particle concentration range as shown in Table 1 below.

The results should be presented as three numbers separated by slashes, such as 24/20/14. This result would refer to:

more than 80 000 and up to and including 160 000 particles equal to or larger than 4 μm

more than 5 000 and up to and including 10 000 particles equal to or larger than 6 μm

more than 80 and up to and including 160 particles equal to or larger than 14 μm
